Senior School Careers Guidance
From the first day that a pupil enters the Grammar School (even in year seven), open access is provided to all careers material (careers library, videos, booklets, etc.).
Additionally, every pupil is encouraged to use the College’s careers computer, with its regularly updated database, in order to seek out information on any of the hundreds of careers available.
Not surprisingly, these opportunities are taken up by almost every pupil in year seven, and it is not unusual, within a few weeks of a pupil entering the school, for teaching staff to find themselves discussing possible future careers with both pupil and parents.
In subsequent years, each pupil is individually counselled by both the school and the local Careers Guidance Officer with whom appointments are specifically made.
“Staff work closely with pupils to establish which path they want to follow beyond school. Pupils are given high quality and impartial advice and guidance about the opportunities available to them beyond school.” (Ofsted 2018)
“Staff organise useful experiences for pupils in a range of work environments.” (Ofsted 2018)
“Pupils take part in a good range of visits, including to exhibitions, talks and to universities.” (Ofsted 2018)
